GST Verification API

What is a GST Verification API?

A GST Verification API confirms whether a Goods and Services Tax Identification Number is valid and currently active, and returns the registered details associated with it — legal name, trade name, registration status, address and constitution of business.

How it works

The business submits a GSTIN. The API queries GST records and returns the registration’s current status along with the registered particulars. A well-designed response distinguishes between a GSTIN that is active, one that has been cancelled or suspended, and one that has never existed — three materially different situations that a simple valid/invalid answer would collapse into one. Veriqos exposes this through its GST Verification API.

What it proves

That an entity registered for GST under this number, and what it declared when registering. That is genuinely useful: it establishes the business exists in a government record and has a stated legal name and address.

What it does not prove

That the business is currently trading, that it is solvent, or that the person quoting the GSTIN is authorised to act for it. Fabricated entities registered solely to generate invoices hold valid GSTINs. Verification of the number is a necessary check, not a sufficient one.

It also does not confirm filing compliance. A registered but non-filing business will still return an active status.

Where it is used

Vendor and supplier onboarding, marketplace seller verification, MSME lending, invoice financing, and any process where a business needs to establish that a counterparty is a real registered entity before transacting or extending credit.

In lending specifically

GST filings have become a significant input to small-business underwriting, because monthly filings are difficult to fabricate at scale and give a lender a view of real revenue. Verification of the registration is the step that precedes using that data.
